GETTING STARTED WITH TRAINING
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAINING?
Each license and rating has its own requirements. Please see our programs section for the specified requirements for each program, including minimum ages to commence training.
HOW DO I APPLY?
To apply, fill out our application form. A staff member will be in contact with you to help you get started within three business days of completing the form.
HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN START FLYING?
To start flying, you must have:
Completed a Category 1 (CPL) or 3 (PPL) medical,
Written and passed your PSTAR and ROC-A Exams (This will be facilitated by staff as part of the application process), and
Completed our enrollment package.
Once these items are complete, we will get you flying as soon as possible!
HOW DOES GROUND SCHOOL WORK?
A mandatory component of the PPL and CPL training is ground school, where you learn about the theory and regulations behind the flying you do with your instructor.
In-house ground schools for the Private Pilot License are held periodically, keep an eye on our homepage for information on the next class!
Online ground school for the PPL and CPL can be started at any time. Click here for more information.
HOW DO I TRANSFER TRAINING FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL?
If you are looking to transfer to SATC from another flight school, please fill out our application form. Once you are registered with us, we will need your Pilot Training Record (PTR).
WHERE CAN I GET A MEDICAL DONE? CAN I HOLD A MEDICAL IF I WEAR GLASSES?
A medical must be done by a Transport Canada Certified Aviation Medical Examiner (CAME). Find your nearest CAME here.
You don't need to have 20/20 vision to get a medical, however your vision needs to be corrected to 20/20 and glasses/contacts must be worn.
WHAT PRIOR EDUCATION DO I NEED?
There are no requirements for high school or post-secondary completion to undergo flight training.
DO I NEED AN ENGLISH PROFICIENCY TEST?
If you attended high school in Canada, an English proficiency test is not required.
If you did NOT complete high school in Canada, you will be required to undergo an English proficiency test, which will be organized at some point over the course of your training.
HOW LONG DOES TRAINING TAKE?
This depends on how often you fly, as well as how quickly you pick up the material. A PPL can be completed in as little as 6 months, though the average is closer to a year. Each of our programs has a minimum and average completion timeline attached

Students are also to follow the IMSAFE checklist when determining if they are suitable to fly. If the student is unfit to fly, they must cancel their flight as soon as practicable. If there are multiple cancellations or patterns in the student’s behavior due to being unfit to fly, a meeting with management will be required.
