A night rating allows you to fly at night but requires visual contact with the ground.
Night hours are an important part of your total hours if you plan to fly commercially.
NIGHT RATING REQUIREMENTS
Student must hold a PPL or higher and a valid medical before commencing training
MINIMUM FLYING REQUIREMENTS
The night rating requires a minimum of 20hrs training, which includes:
10hrs dual instrument time (5h may be from PPL)
5h dual night, including:
2h night dual cross-country
5h solo night, including:
10 takeoffs and landings at night
There is no flight test for the night rating, however students times are almost always higher than the TC minimums as they must demonstrate the level of proficiency required to be signed off. We usually advise that students budget $3,500 plus GST to spend on this portion of their training.
HOW LONG IS THIS GOING TO TAKE?
Timeline depends on your availability and dedication. If you are dedicated and can train full time it can take as little as 1 month.
